In the previous 1.700 days, more than 50 citizens submitted a request to switch from a Serbian to a Kosovo driver's license, it says. KoSSev.
More than 50 days ago, the decision of the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs came into force, enabling the transition from a Serbian driver's license to a Kosovo driver's license.
A total of 1,713 such requests have been submitted so far.
The vast majority of requests were submitted in municipalities in the North of Kosovo - 1,408.
At the same time, the addition of categories from the Serbian to the Kosovo driver's license is also allowed for persons who passed the exam for the corresponding categories after June 10, 1999, until May 9. For that, citizens additionally need, in addition to other documents, an original UNMIK or RKS driver's license.
The entire process of obtaining a Kosovo driver's license takes 15 days. When receiving this, the Serbian driver's license that the applicant submitted is returned to him as an invalid document.
As it was confirmed for KoSSev by the police, the Kosovo institutions are physically canceling the document.
How to apply for a driver's license replacement
In order to apply for a transfer from a Serbian to a Kosovo driver's license, citizens must possess: driver's licenses issued by the Republic of Serbia for persons who passed the driving test for the corresponding categories after 10.06.1999. year, until May 9 of this year (the date of entry into force of the Decision of the Kosovo MUP).
The documentation that citizens, along with the request, must submit to the Document Processing Center located in the municipality is - a copy of the Kosovo ID card, the original driver's license issued by the Serbian authorities, a medical certificate for being equipped with a driver's license and proof of payment of the tax.
When it comes to medical certificates, those from Serbian health institutions will not be accepted for this process, but exclusively from Kosovo ones. For category B/BE, the price of the certificate is 20 euros, and for C and D it is 50 euros. The mentioned fee is 15 euros.
Permission of the Government of Kosovo
Let us remind you that the Government of Kosovo announced two months ago that the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a decision to allow citizens to exchange Serbian driver's licenses for Kosovo ones.
Driving licenses issued by Serbia for cities in Kosovo are used mainly by members of the Serbian community, while official Pristina considers them illegal documents.
"We have been receiving requests for such a decision for a long time. We want to relieve our citizens of the daily problems they face," said Prime Minister Aljbin (Albin) Kurti in an address in Serbian.
He stated that the replacement of Serbian driver's licenses for Kosovo ones "will enable citizens to register their vehicles on RKS (Republic of Kosovo) plates more easily and conveniently."
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo has announced that in order to transfer to a driver's license issued by Kosovo institutions, it will not be necessary to retake the tests.
