City Hall City of Zagreb voted the Conclusion calling on the mayor to take all necessary measures to prevent the use of fascist and Ustasha symbols, slogans and slogans, including "Za dom spremni", on all public areas and events under the authority of the city.
The decision applies to areas managed by city institutions and commercial companies, as well as to all public areas for which the City issues permits for holding events. The goal, the representatives said, is to protect public space from messages that encourage hatred, violence and exclusivity, reports Index.
Tomašević stated that the use of Ustasha symbols will be prohibited in spaces managed by the City, but that Marko Perković Thompson's concert on December 27 will still take place, because a contract was signed for it earlier.
Iva Ivšić, the president of the We Can Parliamentary Club, pointed out that the conclusion is based on the anti-fascist values of the Croatian Constitution and on the views of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights.
"The Constitutional Court clearly stated that 'Za dom spremni' is the Ustasha salute of the Independent State of Croatia and that it is not in accordance with the Constitution, while the European Court of Human Rights in the Šimunić v. Croatia case determined that its public use is not protected by freedom of expression because it incites hatred," said Ivšić.
