The protest "We don't give Žabalj, we don't give Jegrička" was held on Sunday evening in Žablje. Citizens gathered dissatisfied with the announcement of the opening recycling facilities waste tires, which will have a capacity of up to 72 tons per day. Factory construction is planned in an industrial zone, but only 800 meters from the first houses. Citizens are asking either for the factory to be moved or for this project to be stopped completely.
Miloš from Žablje, who is one of the citizens who objected to the Environmental Impact Study, tells N1 that three months ago it was Public Hearing in relation to the notified factory when a deadline of 60 days has been agreed to respond to the environmental impact of the factory. But he is not there yet.
"We organized this protest prtest because we don't want anything to poison us anymore. Because here we also have a landfill that poisons us, we also have various farms that poison us, and now also that factory for processing tires. It would be really too much", points out Miloš.
He also adds that there is a water source nearby, which supplies the whole of Žabalj.
"Arable land is everywhere, there is food production, and there is also near the Jegrička bar, that waste water has to go somewhere. There are canals connected to the Jegrička bar, and we rightly fear that it will all be poisoned. So, either they should be moved from Žablje, or there is simply no such thing here," he said.
He also states that they want specific answers as to why a tire processing factory is good for them, indicating that they have sent more than 500 applications and objections to the study and have not yet received any response, and the deadline is the end of August.
