President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić he welcomed the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in front of the "Serbia" Palace. The tete-a-tete meeting between the two presidents was followed by a meeting between the two delegations.
Addressing the media after signing the memorandum, President Vučić stated that Serbia supports the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We are grateful to Ukraine for supporting the territorial integrity of Serbia, said Vučić, while Zelenski thanked for the respect shown to Ukraine and the new package of humanitarian aid.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today that Serbia and Ukraine have significantly raised the level of trade exchange.
"Last year, it amounted to about 450 million US dollars. Already this year, in the first six months, it is significantly higher, about 321 million US dollars. And I believe that our most important import product from Ukraine is iron ore. I believe that through cooperation in the field of agriculture, but also in energy, and in all other fields, I believe that trade exchange can be much greater," said Vučić at a joint press conference after the meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in the Palace of Serbia.
He added that they also discussed joint projects in the field of infrastructure and the engagement of Ukrainian companies on the territory of Serbia. "I believe that we can get good and very significant results in the future. When I said this, I was really fascinated by the railway network that Ukraine has recently when I went to Kiev, and I believe that we can learn a lot from Ukraine in this regard, from their state-owned companies as well, and that we can work together to improve our transport network in Serbia," said Vučić.
Zelenski: Gratitude to Serbia for its support
Ukrainian Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Serbia in Belgrade today for providing support to Kyiv in healthcare and energy.
We are grateful to Belgrade for the support it provides to Ukrainian independence, people and territorial integrity, Zelenski said after the conversation with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
At the beginning of his address to the media in Belgrade, he thanked President Vučić and his team for their respect, hospitality and support for the Ukrainian people, independence and territorial integrity, and that they deeply appreciate it.
He added that last night and today he talked with President Vučić about bilateral cooperation and things that can strengthen infrastructure, ports and railway stations, economy and security.
"There are concrete development infrastructure projects, such as reconstruction projects in Ukraine, which we can implement together. It would be a significant contribution to preserve existing jobs, and to open new, really decent, jobs both in Ukraine and in Serbia. We have the area of food security. Regardless of what happens, people must be given every opportunity to live," said Zelensky.
He added that they also discussed the challenges facing Ukraine.
"Not a single thermal power plant was left unscathed in the Russian attacks because the missiles were directed in such a way as to make the life of Ukrainians unbearable. Any engagement with partners in the field of energy is of great importance and there are ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy," said Zelensky.
