A little more than two weeks left local elections in ten cities and municipalities. President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated that the most important thing is that they be democratic and that the people decide "how they want, according to their conscience".
"After the local elections on March 29, we will find out who will govern in ten municipalities", said Vučić in a guest appearance on Radio-television of Serbia and added that the Serbian Progressive Party "is going to win in all ten municipalities".
"After 14-15 months of mistreatment of citizens, terrible damage, cancellation of the right to education and work, blocking of roads and reduced investments for the sake of someone's personal interests, people recognized what it was all about," said Vučić.
He added that opposition lists are favorites in certain areas, such as the whole of western Serbia, as well as in Kula and Bor.
"I will also congratulate (Zlatko) Kokanović and (Jov) Bakić, I will be the first to congratulate. I also congratulated (Nenad) Bogdanović at half past ten for a 0,3 percent difference. I always recognize the results and congratulate the opponent," he said.
The calling of parliamentary elections does not depend on local ones
While regular local elections are being prepared in several cities and municipalities, a decision on the calling of extraordinary parliamentary elections is also awaited.
Vučić said that their announcement "does not depend in the least on the results of the local elections".
"The competent institutions will make a decision on calling for extraordinary parliamentary elections, but taking care of the interests of Serbia, not their particular interests, of any party, not even the Serbian Progressive Party," Vučić told Serbian Radio and Television, leaving the possibility that the presidential elections in 2027 and the parliamentary elections would be separated.
