Today before noon, several crows injured a woman on Kralja Aleksandra Boulevard in Belgrade. She suffered head injuries and was treated at the Emergency Center.
Nothing unusual, experts say - it's like that every May and June, when crows nest and protect their young birds that are learning to fly, and their parents see a potential enemy in people on the street.
In previous years, the most crow attacks at this time of the year were in New Belgrade, but also in Zemun, Košutnjak, Zvezdarska šuma, Red Cross, Slavija, last year the media published information about crow attacks in Novi Sad, including the story of a woman from Novi Sad. from which it can be seen that crows attack only when they are protecting their young, and several attacks per day were reported to the Zagreb doctors.
On the Croatian coast, people are being attacked by seagulls these days, writes "Jutarnji list". It is no longer uncommon to see them attacking people, wanting to steal their food in the middle of the street or square or at a table on a terrace, writes this newspaper.
In Poreč since 2011, following the example of Great Britain, seagulls have been replacing their eggs with plastic ones in their nests. They were joined by Rovinj, Novigrad and Pula, so now around 3500 eggs are replaced annually.
The campaign is led by Poreč Veterinary Hospital and Healthy City Poreč, and financed by Pula, Poreč, Rovinj and Novigrad with the largest Istrian hotel houses. They say that in Poreč, where the action has been carried out for the longest time, the seagull population has decreased by 50 percent, and even by 70 percent in hotel and tourist areas.
They also say that their goal is not to reduce the population of seagulls, but to return them to the cliffs where their natural habitat is.
In Serbia, there was a proposal to move their nests to uninhabited parts of the city, so it turned out to be a difficult undertaking.
Crows have become accustomed to an urbanized environment, experts say, so they first caw, fly around, signal, try to scare us, beat their wings, before landing on the heads of people who happen to be near the nest. They are wild birds, but they have been proven to be smart - remember that they throw a nut on the ground in order to crack it and eat the kernel.
For those who are panicking about crow attacks, another good news - these birds will stop scaring us in ten days. Then, namely, the birds that have left the nest will practice flying, so their parents will have no reason to protect them in the way they do now.
