Members of the security of the City Assembly Kraljeva on Thursday, they physically clashed with opposition councilors, and Local Front councilor Jelena Tošić even had her arm broken.
Local Front Councillor Predrag Voštinić who himself was attacked by the security, tells "Vreme" that the government has decided to "fight the sword" and that now "he will have to live in accordance with that".
Voštinić says that the incident was preceded by the request of the councilor of the Local Front that "the most unworthy, those who, led by the mayor, showed the bloody middle fingers to the students and citizens of Kraljevo" would not attend the regular session of the Kraljevo City Assembly scheduled for Thursday.
"It violates the dignity of the City Assembly and places us in the same body of people who are not worthy of their office. Since they did not fulfill the request, councilor Vladan Slavković, who additionally requested that that article of the rules of procedure be respected, the security brutally tried to remove him from the podium. And he was not the only one, because all of us who were there were brutally thrown out and carried out. Some councilors were literally run over, it was not kicking, but the application of improper force," says Voštinić.
Councillor's broken arm
He states that all councilors ended up in the emergency room.
"While some had minor injuries, such as scratches, others had to be filmed, in order to determine whether they had serious physical injuries," says Voštinić.
He later announced on IX that Jelena Tošić, member of the Local Front, had her right arm broken during the intervention of parliamentary security.
Voštinić emphasizes that the reaction of the parliamentary security was completely unexpected.
"There were too many security guards, it's obvious that the government decided to fight back, and now, unfortunately, they will have to live in accordance with that. Bare force is the only thing the government can engage in. The arrest of activists in Novi Sad, their two-month detention and pretending to be a democratic regime clearly cannot go on anymore," says Voštinić.
The fiction of democracy cannot return
He also states that the government does not react "to any of our rebellions, to their inaction and disrespect for the law, and especially to the indolence that there has been a huge upheaval in society, and they can only use force."
He also points out that there is no chance "to restore the fiction of democratic institutions in the state".
"That fiction was built expensively, with our money, a cult of personality was also built, and now we are fully aware that that fiction cannot be re-established. The government decided to use physical force, but they realized that it is easier and more effective for them to do it institutionally, and not to let their wild beasts loose, as they did with students and activists in Novi Sad," concluded Voštinić.
