"I think overall it's a difficult situation. I don't want to undermine everyone's good will, but this is very scary. This is not an environment in which to (normally) live", said Viola Von Kramon in front of the municipality of Zvečan, during a visit to the north of Kosovo.
Visibly worried about the incident that happened three days ago when special units of the Kosovo Police forcefully entered the Zvečan municipality building.
Apart from Zvečan, on Friday they allowed the newly elected Albanian mayors to enter the municipal premises in Leposavic and Zubin Potok, which the local Serbs oppose. The action in all three municipalities was accompanied by incidents with more than 10 slightly injured Serbs and 5 policemen, and at least two demolished police vehicles, with the general disapproval of the local community, despite claims to the contrary in Pristina.
The reactions of the international community were harsh. The German envoy for dialogue, Manuel Saracin, as well as Kramon, came urgently and has been in Kosovo for the third day. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the two sides to dialogue and on Pristina not to take unilateral actions and urgently de-escalate the situation, and not to take destabilizing steps.
As reported by KoSSev, the Kosovo security authorities, however, are still staying in these buildings, they have replaced the flags, doors and surveillance cameras, while the Kosovo authorities congratulate them on the action and announce the normal arrival of the mayor to their workplaces.
Different types of police vehicles take turns in front of the municipal buildings - from armored, regular, civilian jeeps, as well as units - from policemen in ordinary uniforms, to special forces with helmets, bulletproof vests and other pipes, both in blue and gray uniforms.
“You're here 24/7? Where is the threat?! What on earth brought you here?", the European rapporteur for Kosovo said in a short conversation with the special units of the Kosovo Police that she found in front of the Zvečan municipality building.
She stated that it was a "civilian, normal end", and that the arrival of the mayor should have been democratic and civil, but the opposite was achieved.
She said that she should ask questions about it to Pristina. She also said that "something is really bad".
KoSSev states that during a tour of the municipality of Zvečan, civil activist Aleksandar Stojanović and political activist Aleksandar Aresenijević found themselves on the spot, who previously, in a live broadcast, called for a member who allows the ethnic community to emphasize its identity features.
Arsenijević took Von Kramon and the advisor to the EU on a tour of two schools, one high school, one elementary school, a kindergarten with a crèche and a student dormitory, which are located in the immediate vicinity of the municipal building, showing them the presence of special units, as well as the remains of shock bombs that were fired during incident on Friday.
