Everything could have been expected by retired first class captain Branko Momčilović, known as Majkan, a veteran of wars from Slovenia, Croatia, and later with Kosova, except that he will be detained for possessing the Serbian flag.
Majkan started early this morning, as a passenger, on student protest in Belgrade, and then the police stopped the vehicle he was in and as "suspicious" they found, as stated in the official note, "a flag of Serbia with black Cyrillic letters with the words 'Military and war veterans of Košar 2025 with students and the people, for the Constitution, justice and freedom.'
The policemen put Momčilović in an official vehicle and took him to the Voždovac police station, where the inspectors were in a situation where they were either crying in agony or laughing, because everything was done under the direction of the BIA, which they barely admitted to him.
The informative interview lasted 35 minutes, Momčilović admitted that the flag he was carrying was the symbol of the informal association of veterans of the 24th battalion of the military police from Kragujevac and explained to them that it was on a plastic stick, hollow inside, about two meters long.
My friends and I went to a public gathering without the intention of committing any illegal acts, Momčilović told pollicija.
He told "Vreme" that it was strange that the police stopped the vehicle he was in, but the others did not, and that he was surprised since the flag of Serbia was disputed.
"I'm not in politics, I'm not a member of any party, I'm a war veteran and I don't hide it." And now we are their flag and I'm a nuisance. And in the end, they return the flag to me and say that I am free to go. Because of me and the flag, they hire the police to arrest me. And I will proudly hold the flag at the protest and, like all war veterans, be ready to defend students from any attacks," said Momčilović.
