The Belgrade Philharmonic will mark 100 years of work with a concert season that, under the slogan "Forever", will last from now until June 2024.
Concerts worthy of the jubilee have been announced with Zubin Mehta, Nemanja Radulović, "Disney's Fantasy" in Ušće, the "Za Tasa" concert, a performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3, Bach's "Mass in a minor"...
During the presentation of the program of the hundredth year, it was also said that the Belgrade Philharmonic is entering its new century one step away from the new hall, but the hope was also expressed that this will happen with the director at the helm.
Namely, the Philharmonic has not had an adequate hall this whole century, and since November 2021, it has an acting director, Darko Kostić.
This second problem, it seems, is about to be solved, because as told to the "Vremena" portal, the competition for the director of the Belgrade Philharmonic is being prepared and an announcement is expected soon.
The building is not ready, but it is on the right track.
Let us remind you that in 2021, the United Nations Development Program (UNDR) announced an international competition for the design of the Philharmonic Concert Hall intended for the world's most famous architectural firms. 37 applications from 15 countries were received, and a year ago the solution of the project studio AL_A from London was chosen. The project includes four main spatial units – a symphony concert hall with 1.600 seats, a recital hall, a creative center, and a podium.
Amanda Levitt, director of this studio, tells "Vremena" portal that since then "fantastic progress has been made" and that "the development of the design of the concert hall is taking place at a record speed."
He states that "the technical documentation was recently approved, and the application for the construction permit is being prepared."
At the beginning of this month, the UNPD announced a tender for the design and execution of geological surveys, in order to define underground water and poetrogeothermal resources, as renewable energy sources for use in heating and air conditioning systems.
The concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic will be right next to the Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade in block 13, in a location that has significant potential for the use of groundwater. The project includes a room for performance, rehearsals and creative work, as well as a symphony concert hall with 1.600 seats.
A year ago, during the promotion of the winning project, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić stated that the concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic is "currently the largest infrastructure project in the field of culture in Serbia and in the region, and one of the largest in Europe."
