During the protest on Thursday evening, citizens lined up to sign a petition demanding the resignation of the mayor, Uzice police chief and deputy commander of the intervention unit, who allowed the brutality of the gendarmerie.

Who is in custody?
The nine arrested in Užice after the highway blockade were ordered into custody for up to 30 days: Radovan Novaković, Vladan Sinđić, Marko Radovanović, Pavlo Cicvarić, Dejan Ćosić, Branko Nikolić, Aleksa Nikolić, Marko Krejović and Branko Jovanović. They are suspected of having attacked an official during blockades and protests in Uzice.
Among those detained is lawyer Radovan Novaković, which is why the Bar Association of Serbia decided on a three-day suspension of work in criminal proceedings. The students of the Faculty of Political Sciences are also demanding the immediate release of those arrested, while the Civic Initiatives report that the entire society is detained in Užice.
In a statement, the Basic Court in Užice states that "there are special circumstances that indicate that the suspect could repeat the crime."
The incident that preceded the arrest occurred while the citizens of Užice were trying to block the main road. The police tried to disperse them, but the citizens broke through the cordon and succeeded in temporarily blocking the highway.
Since then, daily mass protests have been organized in Užice.
