- The Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) announced that it has nothing to do with the promotion with the SNS video in which a representative of an association of visual artists appears.
- Iz ULUS they state that due to the similarity of the name of the association, there has been confusion that has upset the membership and the public.
- The person from the video, as stated, is not connected to either the membership or the leadership of ULUS.
- ULUS reminds that the Statute defines it as a non-governmental, non-profit and professional organization that excludes party organization and support for parties.
What happened
On the eve of the meeting in Novi Sad, which was held on October 16, the Serbian Progressive Party published a video featuring Danijela Miliฤeviฤ, the president of the Association of Fine Artists. However, it is not the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia, i.e. ULUS.
The management board of ULUS published a statement in which it states that it did not participate in the video in any way and that, due to the similarity of the name with that association, there was a confusion that disturbed the membership and the public. They point out that ULUS is "the representative and oldest association of visual artists in Serbia", and that the person in the video has no connection with its membership or leadership.
ULUS reminds that, according to the Statute, it is a non-governmental, non-profit and professional organization, which excludes any party political organization and support to political parties within the association's bodies. The members of ULUS have previously, in professional and public matters, advertised separately from the authorities, among others regarding the area of โโthe "Cvijeta Zuzoriฤ" Art Pavilion in Belgrade.
Why is this important?
For the members of the association and the public, it is a question of the impartiality of the professional body: if the name of the association in the campaign is identified with a party, the membership can be shown as politically determined, although according to the Statute it must not be. For voters, it is also an example of how the names of organizations are used in pre-election videos, so it is important to distinguish between associations and their representatives. For other professional associations, it is a reminder that they can find themselves in the campaign in a context in which they did not participate.
