Terrorists, Nazis, foreign mercenaries, domestic traitors, hooligans, idiots, jerks, monkeys, scumbags... For months, the government and its media have been using these insults. student and citizens who fight for justice and the rule of law. Such labeling is dangerous because they come from the top of the government.
Such insults and threats have led to students being run over by cars, and more recently to beatings and arrests. What does that regime's "decent Serbia" look like, "which wants to move forward"?
Here it is like this. As soon as he returned from Šapnia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with members of the MUP and wrote on his Instagram account that the ministry "bears a huge burden in the fight against hooliganism and terrorism in Serbia." In other words - beat harder, arrest more.
Four advocates of that "decent Serbia" who are in January with a stick who broke the jaw of the female student, Vučić pardoned. For him, they are "heroes of the country".
More decent media - those who insult and cheer
The editor-in-chief of Informer, Dragan J. Vučićević, recently "thundered" on his television: "Lucky for you, the policemen didn't get a completely free hand, and soon when they do, and they will, if you continue like this, you won't go to the sidewalk, but straight to emergency centers as you should and, straight to prison hospitals as you should. You are the worst scumbags! You are going to destroy life in Serbia. Shame on you!"
Vučićević's vocabulary is much wider - terrorists, blockaders, idiots, jerks, monkeys... One could count many more. His deputy, Dejan Vukelic, is not mute either in the Kolegium show or on the "X" social network. It says that Serbia is in the midst of a "syphilis revolution".
"This is no longer a revolution, this is the creation of a list of future patients of psychiatric institutions. We all have a difficult task, we need to heal all these beings and return them to human form," writes Vukelić with the publication of a report for TV Informer showing citizens crossing the pedestrian crossing several times.
By the way, the President of Serbia openly threatens the media such as Nova S and N1, saying that "what Nova S and N1 are doing is pure terrorism and we will wait for what the prosecutor will say." He added that no one has ever cut their cables, no one has ever hindered them or detained them, and that "we can do it within five minutes".
Danger
The Serbian public has been clearly divided for months and that gap is getting deeper. The part of the public that supports Vucic swears furiously and swears at their neighbors, constantly repeating the words they just heard from the authorities and the pro-regime media. This is the mildest consequence of such a narrative. Police violence against students and citizens, as well as attacks on journalists during reporting, are much more serious. There is more and more of this and it is becoming more and more brutal.
On the occasion of police brutality on the streets across Serbia, Bishop Grigorije also spoke out: "Dear students, dear rebel people, your dignity is your greatest strength. Your peaceful resistance is the most honorable fight for a better and fairer Serbia."
