Citizens and activists continued blockade of the Court and Prosecutor's Office building in Novi Sad, demanding the release of six activists, including Professor Marija Vasić, who was transported to the prison hospital in Belgrade due to hunger and thirst as a result of the strike.
The banner "In front of you is the people, behind you is the gang - choose" was placed in front of the courthouse.
The blockade of the Novi Sad court began on Thursday, May 15 at 7.00:XNUMX a.m. and citizens have been on duty since then, and they said that the blockade will last until the Novi Sad activists are released from custody.
The previous day, until deep into the night, was marked by a riot of citizens and activists of SNS in front of the premises of that party on the Boulevard of Liberation in Novi Sad. Eggs flew on several occasions, and progressive activists also threw white paint at citizens. A police cordon separated them, and at one point they used batons - against SNS activists.
How did it all begin?
The tensions in front of the premises of the SNS on the Boulevard of Liberation began on Sunday around noon, when citizens gathered at that location and loudly protested against the ruling party.
The situation was heated on several occasions, only to be calmed down by the arrival of the police. Gendarmerie and police in full gear to break up demonstrations created a buffer zone between citizens and SNS supporters.
In the next 12 hours, the gathered citizens and SNS activists threw bottles and eggs at each other, and at one point the police pulled batons at the SNS members, who also hit the policemen on several occasions.
At 23.52:XNUMX p.m., the citizens silently paid their respects to the victims of the fall of the canopy, and during that time the progressives provoked with megaphones and played music. After that, the citizens continued their protest in front of their party premises for several more hours.
In the incidents, several demonstrators were injured when SNS members hit them in the head with water bottles.
Vucevic declared "victory"
The president of the Serbian Progressive Party, Miloš Vučević, posted a photo of SNS activists in front of the premises on the boulevard on his Instagram account around four in the morning, along with the short words "Victory".
During that time, six Novi Sad activists of the Movement of Free Citizens and the Stav group have been in custody for more than two months. They are charged with a criminal offense related to the preparation of the violent overthrow of the constitutional order. A warrant has been issued for six more activists of the Stav organization.
The students in the blockade of the law faculties in Serbia requested urgent action on the appeal against the decision on the extension of detention and called on the acting judges in this process to enter the court on Monday and "act in accordance with their legal and moral obligations".
