Students in the blockade The University of Niš asked the president Aleksandar Vučić to announce early parliamentary elections. In the letter, which is a response to the statement of the President of Serbia that he did not receive such a request from them, they stated that delaying the announcement of elections "will be interpreted as avoiding political responsibility, but also insecurity and distrust in one's own legitimacy."
"We are addressing you with a clear and concrete request that, within the framework of your constitutional powers, in accordance with Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, upon the reasoned proposal of the Government, dissolve the National Assembly and call for extraordinary parliamentary elections for deputies", the students in the blockade of the University of Nis stated in a letter to Vučić.
They specify that they are requesting this "on the basis of Article 4, Article 98 and Article 105 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, which guarantees the division of power into legislative, executive and judicial, and prescribes that the National Assembly is the highest representative body and the holder of constitutional and legislative power in the Republic of Serbia, and the President of the Republic represents the state and contributes to the functioning of the democratic order with his competences".
They add that they believe "that elections are the only democratic mechanism that can verify the will of citizens and restore trust in institutions."
"If, as you often point out, you are really sure of the people's support, we invite you to confirm this through free, fair and democratic elections, organized without abuse of public resources, election malpractice, pressure on voters and media control. Any further delay will be interpreted as avoiding political responsibility, but also insecurity and distrust in your own legitimacy. We invite you to act responsibly in accordance with the interests of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia," reads the letter sent by the students in the blockade of the University of Niš Aleksandar Vučić.
