According to the announcements of the meteorologist, today, Monday August 10, is waiting for us mostly sunny and warm weather. Similar weather conditions will persist in the following days, and already tomorrow temperature will reach up to 39 degrees.
In the mountainous areas of southern and southeastern Serbia this afternoon, with occasional cloud cover, there is a possibility of short-term rain, but it will be very rare. A weak to moderate wind will blow, mainly from the east. The highest daily temperature will be between 34 and 37 degrees, the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute announced.
Mostly sunny weather will remain during the next days. Another very warm day awaits us tomorrow, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35 to 39 degrees in most of Serbia. From Wednesday to Friday, a slight cooling will follow, so the temperature will be between 30 and 34 degrees, while in the south of Serbia it will reach 36 degrees on Wednesday.
On the weekend, as well as during the following Monday, the temperature is expected to rise again, which will be around or above 35 degrees. Short-term rain or shower will be a very rare occurrence, almost completely isolated, and possible mainly in hilly and mountainous regions during Wednesday and Thursday.
High risk of fire
Due to the long-term drought and extremely high temperatures in Serbia, there is still a very high risk of outbreaks and rapid spread of outdoor fires.
A long-lasting heat wave is already a burden on the health of the population. Experts warn that due to high temperatures, the risks of dehydration, sunstroke and heat stroke are increased, and children, the elderly, chronically ill people, pregnant women, as well as people who work or stay outdoors for a long time are especially at risk.
Citizens are recommended to stay in direct sunlight as little as possible during the hottest part of the day, between 10 a.m. and 17 p.m., because that's when the temperature and UV radiation are most pronounced. It is important to drink enough fluids and, when possible, stay in air-conditioned or well-cooled rooms. In urban areas, especially where there is a lot of asphalt, concrete and traffic, high temperatures will further intensify the feeling of heat.
Heat can cause problems in the functioning of infrastructure and everyday life. Due to the use of air conditioning, the consumption of electricity increases, while the need for water also increases. On the roads, there is a danger of softening asphalt, overheating of cars and bursting of tires, which can increase the risk of traffic accidents. High temperatures can also affect rail traffic, as there is a possibility of deformation of the rails.
A heat wave further complicates the situation in agriculture and animal husbandry, as it can reduce yields and threaten the health and productivity of animals.
The hydrological situation is also unfavorable. According to the available data, the water levels of the Danube and Sava, as well as the Tisza near Titel, will be below the level required for normal navigation in the coming days. On Kolubara with its tributaries, Toplica and Vlasina, as well as on Black and White Timok, flows are very low and approaching the biological minimum.
