In recent days, a large number of fires have been raging throughout Serbia, over 600. In some places, a state of emergency has been declared. Where the fire took its toll
On Monday (July 7) Ministry of Interior (MUP) published a warning, stating that 620 were registered on the territory of the Republic of Serbia that day fire in the open space, in the period from 7 a.m. to 19 p.m.
As part of these events, two firemen-rescuers and four citizens were injured.
The Ministry of Interior warned citizens to behave responsibly in the coming period, in order to reduce the risk of causing fires, because as they state, the human factor is one of the most common causes of fires.
The Department for Emergency Situations and the Helicopter Unit were engaged in extinguishing fires throughout Serbia.
As reported from Ministry of Defense, due to extremely unfavorable weather conditions, the fire got out of control in the vicinity of Kragujevac, Prokuplje, on Mount Tara, as well as in the municipalities of Gornji Milanovac, Kuršumlija, Valjevo, Knić, Veliko Gradište and Bujanovac.
Hotspots in Serbia
Most of the fires were burning in the Šumadija district, where 148 fires were recorded, all of which were extinguished on Tuesday morning, but the teams are still on duty in the most critical places - in Cerovac and Desimirovac, according to the Ministry of Interior's announcement.
"The intervention in the territory of the city of Kragujevac, the municipalities of Rača, Topola, Knić, Arandjelovac - these were all fires in an open area where several hectares were burning, now when we add up roughly we could say that more than 200 hectares of open space were burning. At certain large fires such as this one in Desimirovac and Opornica, we also organized the locals who helped a lot with their work machines, who delivered water, but also plowed with their plows fields and prevented the fire from spreading," says Zoran Kočović, head of the Administration for Emergency Situations in Kragujevac, reports Nova.
On Tuesday (July 8), the mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dašić, at the suggestion of the City Headquarters for Emergency Situations, declared a state of emergency on the territory of the city of Kragujevac, reports N1.

The critical situation also affected the surroundings of Bor, especially the village of Krivelj, the settlement of Banjica, where the fire has not yet been brought under control, Istmedia reports.
The flames engulfed around 300 hectares of forest and low vegetation, with the wind and dry vegetation contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.
Due to the inaccessible terrain, it was difficult for firefighters to put out the fire, and a state of emergency was declared in Bor.
The Serbian army also joined the fight against fires in the country with its helicopters, fire engines, tankers and personnel.
In the village of Slavnik near Bojnik, as a result of uncontrolled fires, houses, auxiliary buildings and orchards burned down.
A large fire broke out in the atar of the village of Đakus (Žitoradja municipality), which engulfed dozens of hectares, including arable land, plum trees and vineyards, Juzne Vesti writes.
The inhabitants of Đakus, Pejkovac and Glašinac immediately went to the field, organized and equipped with machinery - tractors, tanks and sprayers. Together with firefighters, they were trying to localize the fire and protect property on Tuesday (July 8).
More than 50 tractors took part in the action, and everything took place in coordination with the Prokupa firefighting units, which were continuously on the ground for more than 24 hours, making enormous efforts to contain the spread of the fire.
As the weather forecast has suddenly changed, a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius is forecast in this area with possible rain and showers.
Too few firefighters per capita
According to the data of the State Audit Institution (DRI), in Serbia, the ratio of the number of firefighters to the number of inhabitants lags behind European standards, writes Magazine for Safety.
The European standard foresees one firefighter per 1.000 residents.
In Serbia, this ratio is unfavorable - it is predicted that there will be one firefighter-rescuer per 1.865 inhabitants.
Although this number can be improved by including voluntary firefighting societies, Serbia is far below the desired European average in this regard.
