Commissioner of the United States of America (USA) for the specialized international exhibition EXPO 2027 in Serbia, Gavin Wax assessed that the exhibition could improve relations between the two countries and that US President Donald Trump sees it the same way.
"We believe that EXPO 2027 in Belgrade to be an excellent gathering place for everything related to public diplomacy, not only when it comes to relations between Serbia and the USA, but also the wider region, in the cultural and economic sense", said Wax to a group of journalists from Serbia after a round table at the Atlantic Council in Washington on the topic "Innovation and economic development in Southeastern Europe", reports Beta.
How Trump sees relations between the USA and Serbia
Speaking about the relations between the USA and Serbia, Wax said that he views them very positively and that he "thinks that President Trump sees those relations in the same way."
"There is great space and potential for investments, economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of defense. In Serbia, we see that President Trump has very strong support, and we think that this is transferred to the field of public diplomacy, where support for the USA as a partner is growing both bilaterally and multilaterally," he said.
Wax said that Trump recently even shared an article on social media about the restoration and strengthening of bilateral relations between Serbia and the US.
"We were allies in both world wars. We have a long common history. There is a large Serbian-American community living in the USA, so there are many foundations on which cooperation can be further built. When we talk about EXPO, American companies are at the very top, whether it is Archer or Cisco. We are in the center of attention in a commercial and corporate sense, ahead of many other countries and companies in their industries," he added.
Wax said that he sees the recent visit of American representative Sarah Rogers to Belgrade, during which a cooperation agreement was signed, as a new turning point that shows renewed energy in bilateral relations and cooperation between Serbia and the USA.
"This is the only EXPO that will certainly take place during the term of this administration, while the next EXPO in 2030 in Riyadh will be organized during the next administration. Therefore, a big focus of our administration is to ensure that the American participation is strong and that great successes come from it - both economically and through other additional benefits for our relations," said Wax.
He added that all this shows why events such as a specialized international exhibition are a great tool for further improving cooperation.
"I believe their impact will last far beyond the exhibition itself and will leave a long-term mark," Wax said.
