Coalition Serbia against violence and coalition NADA, together with the initiative ProGlas, have agreed on a unique platform with which the opposition will appear at the collegium of the Assembly of Serbia, which is scheduled for Monday, April 1.
In a joint statement, the opposition stated what are the key requirements that must be met before the elections are held.
"The revision of the voter list, in which both opposition parties and non-governmental organizations will participate, in accordance with the recommendations of the ODIHR, then stopping the widespread abuse of the media by the authorities and establishing responsible and professional reporting by the RTS public service and holding all local elections in at the same time, together with the elections for the Assembly of Belgrade, and the opposition will insist on the fulfillment of all recommendations from the final report of the ODIHR," the statement added.
They say that the current actions of the authorities have not shown readiness to fundamentally change election conditions, but, as they say, have continued with the activities that led to the assessment of election irregularities and the post-election crisis, such as voter migration, manipulation of the voter list, blackmail and voter pressure and media abuse.
"Serbia is in a deep political crisis that arose after the election was stolen, and urgent and decisive changes are necessary, the effects of which must be felt before holding any subsequent elections, as stated in the recommendations of the ODIHR." Otherwise, we cannot talk about the elections being free and fair and the opposition will not agree to them," it was announced.
Without high expectations
We remind you that on Monday the Assembly should discuss the ODIHR's recommendations for the remaining local and repeated Belgrade elections.
"We don't have high expectations, that's what we've experienced in previous talks with the authorities." But considering that we initiated that meeting, we will accept any attempt to talk, because we want to show good will," Zdravko Ponoš, president of the Serbia Center party, told Vreme.
The "Serbia Against Violence" coalition requested that a Lex specialis be passed before the elections, a law that would meet all their demands, including the formation of a commission to oversee the elections, revision of the voter list, and the implementation of all ODIHR recommendations. As previously stated by the opposition, a document was prepared with basic solutions that rely on the recommendations of ProGlas and NGO Crta.
