French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Pristina and Belgrade to organize new elections as soon as possible in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, stating that at the same time, it is necessary to clarify the election rules.
After the joint meetings of Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vučić and Vjos Osmani, the French leader told journalists that the tensions in the north of Kosovo are the result of local elections, in which only three percent of registered voters turned out on April 23.
"We fully support all the injured, above all NATO soldiers." We called on both sides to organize new elections in four municipalities (in the north of Kosovo) as soon as possible, and to have Serbian representatives participate in them," Macron told reporters after the summit of the European Political Community.
Scholz and Macron stated this in Chisinau, at the summit of the European Political Community.
Elections must be in accordance with the law
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, a few moments later, stated that Pristina is preparing to hold new elections if they are called in accordance with the law.
The statement of the leaders of France and Germany followed a day after the British Guardian, citing unnamed sources, announced that Pristina was considering calling new elections in the north of Kosovo.
