At the civil protests in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka already well-known plump creatures appeared in black T-shirts, with caps and masks on their heads. They moved their thick necks left and right, stretched their broad shoulders, like hooligans in front of a street brat.
As if on command, in both cities of Vojvodina, they attacked the locals protesting against the criminal rule of Aleksandar Vučić with bottles, stones and pyrotechnics. Somewhere among them, a flag with the image of Ace the Serb was flying.
The members of the Police Brigade, the Gendarmerie and the Intervention Unit were confused. They were obviously not allowed to take any action against the thugs who were defending the premises of SNS, or something like that.
At the time of the attack, residents of Vrbas hid behind the shields of police officers who were in equipment to break up demonstrations. Both of them tried to avoid objects thrown by people from the progressive side of the front.
The scene was bizarre. "This is the first time the police have protected me," one of the protesters said confusedly.
At the same time, on TV Informer, Dragan J. Vučićević and others argue that there is a fascist attack by "blockade-terrorists" on decent citizens who can no longer endure blockade terror and protect the premises of SNS, etc.
A progressive variant of the Nazi SA
In order to protect his own and attack other party gatherings, Hitler entrusted one of his first associates, professional officer Ernst Rehm, to organize a paramilitary group that would operate under the auspices of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) in the early 1920s, "Vreme" previously wrote.
In the beginning, it changed several names, to finally be called the "assault division" - Sturmabteilung (Sturmabteilung) better known by the abbreviation of its name SA. It was an assault squad of thugs for the protection of NSDAP meetings and disruptions of other parties, formed to fight in the streets with groups that rebelled against Hitler,
The SA fought against dissidents with sticks, axes, but also with firearms.
The regular police did not interfere, they stood aside when there were street fights between the SA and Hitler's dissidents, primarily communists.
Similarities and differences
There is an obvious similarity between the SA and the beating groups that periodically appear on the scene in Serbia, as they were at work on Tuesday evening in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka.
However, there are also important differences. Between the opponents of the Nazis led by the communists and the SA there were serious street battles with many dead, and members of the SA and SS never hid their faces under masks. On the contrary, they proudly showed who they were and said what they wanted to achieve. They wanted the German Empire to live for a thousand years.
These Vučićs cover their faces wherever they go. And they don't (yet) use firearms.
Causing great discomfort
Nothing in Europe after World War II can compete with Italian fascism and German Nazism. But for someone who remembers those times, the assault, party squads under the auspices and protection of the government, with masks or phantoms on their heads and sticks and hammers in their hands cause great discomfort, "Vreme" wrote earlier.
A regime of persecution and intimidation of all those who in declaratively democratic Serbia publicly protest against the leader of the "Serbian world" and his followers has been established.
It consciously creates the feeling that they will not be dissuaded from the fact that some thugs, if necessary, can impunity against "enemies of the people and foreign mercenaries", and in the name of the people, to carry out some kind of progressive party justice. The ground has been prepared for that.
The attack in Bačka Palanka and Vrbas is just another hint that the progressive party assault squads could intervene in the future. They have already been experienced by members of citizens' assemblies at Zvezdara and in many cities in Serbia. But this was the premiere of synchronized action in two cities.
