The Kosovo government has called The European Union (EU) to strongly condemn the statement of the Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government of Serbia, Snežana Paunović, about "ethnic cleansing" on Kosovo.
Evaluating that the EU's first response was "limited and delayed", Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo and Minister of Foreign Affairs Glauk Konjufca sent a letter to the EU High Representative Kaji Kalas seeking a stronger response to Snežana Paunović's statement.
The unbearable lightness of callous stupidity
The Government of Kosovo asks the EU to "clearly and publicly condemn the statements of Minister Paunović, to make it clear to the Serbian authorities that such rhetoric is unacceptable and contrary to European values, and to seriously address this issue within the political dialogue and the process of Serbia's accession to the EU".
Snežana Paunović's statement has already been condemned by the EU, and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said on Thursday that she is surprised that Snežana Paunović is still a minister.

"I won't even repeat what she said. It was really shocking to hear such a statement. I can't imagine that the minister, after such a public statement, can continue to perform her duties," said Marta Kos.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that Snežana Paunović's statement did not reflect his will, nor the will of the Serbian government, and the minister herself did not retract her words, but assessed that they were "taken out of context" and apologized to Vučić and the government for the reactions they caused.

In the meantime, a group of opposition MPs submitted a request to Prime Minister Đur Macut for the dismissal of Snežana Paunović.
