In the municipalities in the north of Kosovo, citizens tried to submit requests for the dismissal of the mayor, but their requests were not received. As they told the local media, the police legitimized them, questioned them and took pictures of their documents
In all four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, in North Mitrovica, Leposavić, Zvečan and Zubin Potok, citizens' representatives this morning tried to submit a request for the dismissal of the Albanian mayors, as provided for by the administrative instruction, but they were prevented from doing so in all four municipalities.
The citizens tried to submit the requests to the presidents of the Municipal Assembly, because this is exactly what the administrative instruction drafted by the government in Pristina this summer provides, but all the municipalities refused to accept the request.
How it transmits Kosovo online, the citizens of Zvečan, who tried to hand over the initiative for dismissal in the Lipa settlement, were legitimized by the police.
Illegitimate and illegal elections
Because of everything, the citizens' representatives in all four municipalities will send the request to the Central Election Commission, and they will also inform the countries of the Quinte and the representatives of the European Union about everything.
"We have come today as citizens to submit an initiative for the removal of the mayor of the municipality of North Mitrovica. We wanted to do that, as did our fellow citizens from the municipalities of Zvečan, Zubin Potok and Leposavić. After several hours of negotiations with the authorities of the Municipality of Sevrena Mitrovica, we could not hand over this initiative," said Sanja Krtinić for Kosovo Online.
As he adds, the citizens wanted to file an initiative for the impeachment of the mayor of North Mitrovica, because they believe that he was elected illegitimately and illegally.
"These were not democratic elections, and I must mention that only two to three percent of voters elected this mayor, mostly from the Albanian community, and that more than 95 percent of Serbs did not vote in these elections." For this reason, we as citizens wanted to submit an initiative for the mayor to resign and leave his position. We want to point out that Serbs do not feel safe, this is terror against Serbs and we simply do not want to be silent anymore," says Krtinić.
Threatened rights
She adds that the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija are threatened and that this is a confirmation that their rights are not legitimate and that they are not citizens who deserve rights like everyone else.
"I would like to point out that the international community is familiar with the work of the local governments in the north and they see what the policy towards the Serbs is, so I appeal to them to put some pressure on this government and remind them what the rights of all citizens in Kosovo and Metohija are so that we can enjoy them as well , and not just the majority community," says Krtinić.
Boycotted elections
We remind you that the current mayors in four municipalities were elected in the elections held on April 23. Erden Atić was elected in North Mitrovica, Ljuljzim Hetemi in Leposavic, Iljir Peca in Zvečan, and Izmir Zećira in Zubin Potok.
The elections were boycotted by the Serbs and only about 3,5 percent of voters went to the polls - out of a total of 45.950 registered voters, 1.567 of them exercised their right to vote, of which only 13 were Serbs. Four Albanians came to head the municipalities in the north, where Serbs make up more than 95 percent of the population.
On May 26, the Kosovo police forcefully invaded the municipalities of Zubin Potok, Zvečan and Leposavic, together with members of Rosa, and threw tear gas and stun grenades at citizens who offered peaceful resistance. On that occasion, ten Serbs were injured. Three days later, more than 50 Serbs were injured during the unrest in Zvečan. 30 KFOR members were also injured.
