First Basic Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade replied to the Insider that it could not say when the statute of limitations for the case might start demolition of buildings in Herzegovina and to contact the police for answers to all questions.
The demolition took place ten years ago in the place where Belgrade is now on the water, and the prosecution says that in the proceedings so far, not all the circumstances have been established to be able to qualify the act with certainty.
In their response to Insider, the Prosecutor's Office stated that they did not determine who the masked people were who demolished in Savamala on the night between April 24 and 25, 2016, because the police did not do that either.
"Given that in the above-mentioned case and after several requests for the collection of the necessary notifications and emergencies, until today the police officers have not determined the identity of the person, it is necessary for all more detailed questions to contact them, as the discovery authority," the answer reads.
The subject of revealing the identity of the "phantom from Savamala" was initially in the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office, but was subsequently forwarded to the lower, the First Primary.
In 2017, the prosecutor's office first asked the police to take all measures and actions in order to establish the identity of the perpetrators, but then the criminal offense was listed as "Participation in a group that committed a criminal offense in conjunction with the criminal offense of Unlawful Deprivation of Liberty."
The area of Hercegovačka Street was necessary for the construction of the part of Belgrade on the water, which was declared a project of national importance.
The authorities claimed that that part was not planned for construction until the end of 2019.
However, the Insider announced based on official documentation that the deadline for clearing the area was June 2016, that is, two months before the buildings were demolished in the middle of the night.
