Higher public prosecution suggested to the judge for the preliminary proceedings of the High Court in Belgrade that Nemanja Š. (41), which is suspected of having killed his common-law wife SR (50), orders custody so as not to influence witnesses or to repeat the crime.
VJT stated in the statement that Nemanja Š. presented his defense at the hearing. The Prosecutor's Office proposed custody because the suspect is charged with a criminal offense for which a prison sentence of more than ten years has been prescribed, and the manner of execution or the seriousness of the consequences of the criminal offense have led to public anxiety that may threaten the smooth and fair conduct of criminal proceedings.
The order to conduct the investigation charges the suspect with the criminal offense of aggravated murder from Article 114, paragraph 1, item 10, which is punishable by a prison sentence of at least ten years or life imprisonment, adds VJT.
There are grounds for doubting that Nemanja Š. On June 21, in the evening hours, after a verbal discussion, he hit SR with his hands and feet several times on the body, as well as at least one blow in the head area with a solid object, as a result of which the victim died. It is suspected that Nemanja Š. continuously, since the establishment of an extramarital union in the past ten years, abused SR by beating her, humiliating her, controlling her movement, socializing and disposing of her financial income.
