After the conducted investigations and collected evidence, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Belgrade charges Nenad Milanović, who was the head of the cabinet of Aleksandar Šapić while he was the mayor of Belgrade, for the criminal offense of "influence trading".
The investigation was conducted after BIRN published audio recordings in which Milanović is heard offering to the representatives of the Turkish company Kentkart that he will set up a tender for them for a new job - maintenance and improvement of the ticket collection system and management of vehicles in public city transport - if they agree to the mutual termination of the existing contract from 2021.
As BIRN reported in the text about tender rigging offer to Kentkart, representatives of this company rejected the offer.
As the Department for Suppression of Corruption of the VJT in Belgrade answered to television N1, Milanović's hearing as a defendant is scheduled for December 27.
That hearing should be held ten days after the city elections.
Milanović was the head of the mayor's office until the recent election and dissolution of the city assembly. With such changes, the previous mayor, Aleksandar Šapić, became the president of the temporary body of the City of Belgrade. By the way, Šapić is again the candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) for mayor of Belgrade in the upcoming elections.
