Russian gas: Seven countries pay in rubles

After Poland and Bulgaria, Finland is the third country to which Gazprom has suspended the supply of gas because it does not pay for it in rubles. Finland refused to pay for Russian gas in rubles, and today, Saturday, Russian Gazprom stopped the export of gas to this country - announced the gas system operator Gasgrid Finland. It is the latest escalation of Russia's dispute with Western countries regarding the way this country pays for gas. Before Finland, Gazprom suspended gas deliveries to both Bulgaria and Poland.

"Gazprom Export" demanded that European countries pay for deliveries of Russian gas in rubles in response to sanctions imposed due to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Seven European countries accepted the new terms of payment for Russian gas and opened two accounts with Gazprombanka, and 11 countries informed Gazprom that they do not accept it. These are Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and North Macedonia.

Poland, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Estonia rejected the new payment terms.

Romania, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland and Croatia have not yet made a final decision on whether they will accept the new conditions.

Serbia is in the group of countries that Russia does not consider enemies. Apart from Serbia, there are also Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Moldova, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and South Ossetia.
