Roma the party strongly condemned "all kinds of pressure and blackmail on socially vulnerable categories of the population" in order to force them to attend the announced rally of the Movement for the State and the People, to which the President of Serbia invited his supporters Aleksandar Vučić.
"The local sheriffs of the Serbian Progressive Party use various means of blackmail in order to fulfill the quotas set for them to ensure mass attendance at the rally. Our activists from the field report that they are scared because their houses are being visited by criminals, and Roma settlements are besieged by members of the national council of the Roma national minority," the statement of the Roma Party states.
The whole situation is particularly disturbing because the greatest pressure is on the members of the Roma community in the so-called Roma settlements, which - according to the Roma Party - is "many times dangerous and represents a kind of torture of the weakest".
The Roma party called on the prosecutor's office to "react in accordance with the law and to prevent any kind of violence by local authorities against the population."
"It is obvious that hellish nights are ahead of us," the Roma Party said in a statement.
