A few years ago, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov mockingly joked during an interview with Russia 24 TV saying that "if ever German Chancellor Angela Merkel or the President of the United States of America Donald Trump visit Chechnya, they will be arrested and their accounts will be frozen."
A few days ago, the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik, thundered dead serious, not joking at all, that the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the German Kristijan Šmit, would be arrested and deported if he entered the territory of Republika Srpska. There is another similarity between Kadyrov and Dodik - both of them did not fear and are not afraid of Western sanctions because they do not have assets "where Western countries could freeze them" nor do they visit those countries.
Dodik, according to the good old custom, acquired powers that he does not have, and issued an order to write a decree on the arrest of the first man of the Office of the OHR in BiH, in which he was wholeheartedly supported by court lawyers - contrary to the Vienna Convention, which guarantees Šmit diplomatic immunity.
High Representative insult race
During that time, the supporters and guardians of Dodik's character and deeds showed all the splendor of diplomatic manners and statesmanship - they competed to see who would insult this German more mundanely and primitively, in which their leader has been leading the way since Šmit's arrival in Sarajevo.
The political leadership of the RS does not recognize Šmita in this position, in which they are wholeheartedly supported by Russia. Non-recognition is equated with humiliation, insult and disparagement, while a sign of equality is placed between today's Germany and Nazi Germany in the current narrative. At the same time, it remains unexplained why Serbs prefer to go to Germany and why the political elite of Serbia see Šmit as a friend, unlike their political brothers from across the Drina.
Recontra Schmidt
The first man of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina quickly responded to threats of arrest and announced his arrival in Banja Luka, because he had scheduled important meetings in this city even earlier. With that, he directly attacked Dodik's consistency, telling him that he was coming to remove his mask and show the citizens that the president often makes promises that he does not fulfill.
The special envoy of the German government, Manuel Saracin, visited Milorad Dodik in Banja Luka and explained to him that Germany had stopped projects for this entity because of its secessionist threats. On that occasion, he warned Dodik that threats to Schmidt are unacceptable for them, while Dodik repeated for the umpteenth time that he does not recognize Schmidt as a high representative.
According to Dodik's explanation, Šmit came to BiH to "disempower the Republika Srpska and complete what his ancestors could not do in 1941." "If we are separatists, then Schmidt is an occupier."
A road paved with eggs
And while in part of the public the threats of Šmit's arrest and deportation were considered another "point blank shot" in a series of crazy ideas of the RS political leadership, in another part the potential danger of incidents in which weapons could be drawn was considered.
Anyway, the hated Schmidt escaped the handcuffs in the latest political creation, but if Dodik's new promise is to be believed, he will certainly face the eggs with which the supporters of the RS president will arm themselves. He will be defended from Dodik's eggs by Dodik's police, who were supposed to arrest him by yesterday.
During that time, the European road of Bosnia and Herzegovina, paved with eggs, is in full reform momentum.
