The Zaječar opposition called on the citizens of Serbia to come to the city for a protest on Wednesday (September 24) in order to prevent the holding of the "illegal" and "unlawful" constitutive session of the City Assembly, he said. "Zaječar is the mirror of Serbia. If tomorrow and if, like in the past, these days they manage to violate the law and the Constitution of this country in the way they are doing it or in any way, tomorrow they will do it anywhere in Serbia. We are the ones who must not allow it. When we defend the constitutional order from people who are trying, simply put, to carry out a coup d'état, all means are allowed," said Đuričković.
As he added, that is why he invites "all the people of Zaječar, all citizens of Serbia, all citizens from neighboring cities, all political leaders, to come to Zaječar tomorrow because our city is the center of Serbia on that day, and the dam of the country's constitutional order", reports Nova.
According to him, we must not allow people who, as he claims, "have lost their minds" to do so tomorrow.
"We informed the prosecutor's office and the police about what the minister did, as well as Miodrag Jovanović, who scheduled the session. During the day, we will also inform other institutions, including psychiatric ones, since these people have lost their minds. They are breaking the law, they are breaking the Constitution, and everyone is watching them calmly. We call on the police and the prosecutor's office to react, to arrest the criminals by tomorrow, who have been impersonating themselves for months, and now they are trying to form the government illegally," said Đuričković.
As he added, he invites everyone to come to Zaječar before 9 in the morning, in order, as he said, to defend the Constitution and the law.
"Tomorrow we are the defenders of the constitution. All the citizens who come to our city tomorrow are not only defending Zaječar, but defending the country's constitutional order," he concluded.
What is disputed?
The local elections in Zaječar were held on June 8, and the coalition around the Serbian Progressive Party won. However, the opposition disputes the results of these elections. And the Crta observation mission announced that "in Zaječar, during the election day, 17 polling stations recorded the most severe forms of irregularities, which means that the elections do not reflect the free will of the voters."
Representatives of the opposition filed dozens of appeals against the election results, but they all appeals rejected in the meantime.
In such conditions, constituent session The assembly of the town of Zaječar was held on August 5 and 6, and in addition to local politicians, members of private security, the police, and citizens were also present in the hall and in front of it. Nevertheless, the City Assembly was finally constituted and the local leadership was elected.
However, twenty days later, on August 25, the High Court in Zaječar accepted a complaint filed by an opposition list regarding irregularities in the session. Thus, the constitutive session was cancelled.
According to the Law on Local Self-Government, a period of two months during which the assembly of a local self-government must be constituted in the case Zaječara it expired on Thursday, September 4.
According to the explanation of political scientist Boban Stojanović, this means that the elections in Zaječar should be announced by October 4.
However, the Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović said later that there is no basis for repeating the elections in Zaječar.
"Two members of the Verification Commission from the ranks of the opposition asked the Ministry to supervise the process, and we asked the City Assembly for precise information about what exactly happened. Based on everything we have, we will give a suggestion, that is, an order to continue the constitutive session, confirm the mandates and continue the functioning of the city," Minister Paunović told NewsMax Balkans.
