The recent statement of the former basketball ace and current deputy of the Serbian Progressive Party Dejan Tomašević that his mother prefers the president of Serbia to her own sons is a new episode in the mammoth soap opera of the poor Aleksandar Vučić. That statement, as well as the others that follow, are just a small excerpt from the repertoire of compulsory flattery to Vučić.
On TV Informer, Tomašević shared a "warm human story" with viewers about what his mother thinks about Vučić.
"That's what I said to the president: 'I became jealous of you. My mother loves you more than me and my brother.'
Why do I admire the president?
It is not the first time that Tomašević expresses himself so touchingly when it comes to Vučić. During the recently concluded session of the Assembly of Serbia, he read an inspired "homework" on the topic "Why I admire the president". Here is part of that presentation:
"In turbulent times and enormous challenges for society, before which even many political veterans succumbed, only one man kept calm and showed for the umpteenth time why the people trust him. It was not easy for him, but when you are fanatically committed to constantly building, creating, improving the state and society you belong to, as the president did and is doing, then the results cannot be absent. The daily pressure he is exposed to, the attacks of political dissidents do not seem to stop him on that path." On the contrary, they motivate him even more. However, I am sure that it is not easy and that the sacrifice he is making is huge, and for that I thank him on behalf of myself and all the patriots of our wonderful country," Tomašević read.
"Phoenix from the ashes of the old order"
However, when it comes to courting Vučić, Tomašević has fierce and numerous competition.
For example, his party and parliamentary colleague Nebojša Bakarec loves Vučić so much that he has pasted his photo on the top of his laptop, so every time he opens it, he tells without a word what he thinks of the president. And that's just a fraction of the love he expresses - his statements are the most elaborate part of his broad oeuvre of admiration for the President of Serbia. Here's how he saw the incident when Vučić used the flag of Serbia as an excuse at the United Nations:
"Yesterday, the West and its poltroons destroyed the international order, trampled on international law, violated the United Nations Charter. They destroyed the foundations of the United Nations, by adopting the shameful Resolution on Srebrenica. Never in the history of the UN has a resolution on genocide been adopted without consensus. Fortunately, like a phoenix from the ashes of the old order, a new leader of the free world - Aleksandar Vučić, the President of the Republic of Serbia - has risen. Proudly draped in the flag of Serbia, statesman Vučić has become the originator of a new, better order in the world. President Vučić has become the leader of the free world, who establishes a new, just, humane relationship among the countries in the world! President Vučić has shown that not only Serbia is in his heart, but the whole world," Bakarec said in the author's text.
The President of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, although many tease her that she has a problem with verbalizing her views, is not far behind Bakarec and Tomašavić. She thus used one of Vučić's speeches, the one with the residents of Mali Zvornik, to show how much she loves her "boss":
"After four hours of such an honest and open conversation, which the whole of Serbia could follow live, I have only one thing to say - Serbia will not have such a man and leader as Aleksandar Vučić in the next 300 years," Brnabić wrote on her account on the X network.
"Pillar of Peace"
On the other side of the Drina, his loyal friend Milorad Dodik says all the best about Vučić:
"When you base your politics on principles, truth, law and justice, when you want good for your people and do not want anything bad for others - then you are a leader, like Aleksandar Vučić. He confirms again and again that he is a man who is a source of stability and strength in the Western Balkans, a man who sees things realistically and opens the door to compromises, understanding the legitimate interests of everyone - not imposing anything on anyone. Serbia, as it was built by his selfless efforts, is a pillar of peace and stability. Such a Serbia is also a symbol of economic progress and "Powerful and strong under his leadership is also a strong support," Dodik recently wrote on social networks.
The patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije, once felt that support in Vučić, when he came to visit the president in his quarters on Andrićevo venc.
"It is a joy for us that we can be together with you in the Presidency of the Republic of Serbia, which we do not really feel like our house, but we feel that it is our house. We feel, on the one hand, the need to express that everything that is done here for the good of our people, wherever they live, for the good of Serbia, has our support," Patriarch Porfirije said at the time.
In addition to that mental strength, those who admire Vučić often like to emphasize his physical characteristics, which, according to what was said at the time by the then president of the Serbian Parliament, Vladimir Orlić, border on the superhuman:
"I am especially grateful to Aleksandar Vučić, who for 14 hours today and 11 hours yesterday in the Assembly sat and listened to you, everyone, did not go out once, ate anything, rested, or even walked," said an enthusiastic Orlić.
"In love with Vučić's fiscal consolidation"
Nevertheless, all these are praises at the expense of the work, commitment and historical role of Vučić, and all of them, no matter how polished they are, do not contain the most important of all feelings - love. That is why we should never forget the statement of the former minister Tomislav Momirović who, honest and simple-minded as the social circumstances in which he grew up shaped him, was the only one who openly declared his love for the president:
"I watched political structures destroy the economy. I thought it had to be like that, because it is important that there is no war and sanctions. And then Aleksandar Vučić appeared. He brought fiscal consolidation. Then the average salary was 17.000 dinars, now it is more than 40.000. I fell in love with it," Momirović said at the time.
However, as popular wisdom teaches, there is a priest over a priest, and in the case of courtship at Vučić's expense, it is really about a priest. Here is the end of a transcendental thought of the parish priest from Veliki Radinac who, during his visit to that village, first presented Vučić with a ducat and an icon, and then began to preach:
"I have the honor to host you here and to welcome you, I welcomed here and hosted your son Danilo. You are the president, I don't want to hide it, you are the only president in the world who is exposed to temptations - from the whole world and from our individual people, here in the state".
