Serbian war veterans gathered after the fall of the roof of the Railway Station building in Novi Sad with the intention of defending the blockaded students and pursuing their goals. They agreed that they would not have any political involvement.
However, ten days ago, one group stood out, and announced on the networks that they will run in the extraordinary parliamentary elections as the "Party - War Veterans for Serbia".
That group consists of a small number of veterans, and they have been presenting themselves as the Association of War Veterans of Serbia for some time. Now they have founded a party.
The war veterans of Serbia say that "they are in the majority and that they are the real ones, who gave their word that they will not participate in the elections and that they will only protect the students". They believe that the public of Serbia is deliberately being confused, as well as that this group separated with the aim of weakening them.
They announce that they "disassociate themselves from that group and inform the public that they are with the students, that they will not engage politically, they are aware of the fact that the upcoming elections are of a referendum character."
They emphasize that the War Veterans of Serbia remain consistent with the promise they made to the students and the future of Serbia: that they will unconditionally and disinterestedly protect them and support their electoral list.
As before, they believe that "any political statement by veterans, whether individual, group or party, is a violation of the moral code and directly harms the student struggle."
