On the anniversary of the adoption of the so-called Student edict and last year's big one student protest in Nis, students in lockdown of the local university are announcing a new protest for March 1.
The details of the rally are not yet known, and as the students announce, it will be preceded by a week of freedom in the south of Serbia, during which they will organize forums in Aleksinac, Leskovac, Vranje, Prokuplje and Pirot from February 23 to 27.
The topics of the panels will be ecology, corruption, economy, labor rights, health, media freedom and the functioning of local self-government.
"The south of Serbia must oppose the trend of emigration, poverty and silence! These forums are a step towards naming the problems, connecting people and starting a joint fight for a dignified life in their own cities," the students said in a post on Instagram.
Anniversary of the Student Edict
On the first day of March 2025, tens of thousands of people gathered in Nis from all over Serbia for a protest where the so-called Student edict.
The edict is divided into eight articles - Freedom, State, Justice, Dignity, Knowledge, Solidarity, Future.
Serbia is a country of free people, and freedom is not a mercy, but a fundamental right, inseparable from the dignity of every citizen, as stated in the Student Edict, which called for a government that "will not serve the people, but will serve the people."
The student edict was symbolically proclaimed in Niš, the hometown of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, who is the so-called With the "Edict of Milan" in 313, he declared religious equality and stopped the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.
