Serbia is the only country in the region and Europe where educators have lower than average salaries.
The February salary of education workers, which includes cleaners, administrative workers and teachers, amounted to an average of 74.464 dinars.
A novice professor currently has a salary of around 74.700 dinars, and the average net salary in Serbia in February was 81.359 dinars. This means that the professor has almost seven thousand less than the average salary.
Srđan Slovic, representative of the United Branch Trade Union "Nezavinost", reminds that despite the efforts of educators to change it, this situation has not improved for years.
He states that in Republika Srpska the salary of a beginner professor is over 1000 euros, "that in Bosnia and Herzegovina the salary of a professor with 30 years of service is almost twice the average salary of that country, while our professor with the same years of service barely has one average salary". he told "Today."
And the representative of the Education Union of Serbia, Valentina Ilić, believes that improving the material condition of educators is actually a prerequisite for improving their reputation. She adds that educators are so undervalued that, after the unfortunate events, they have no respect for either the students or their parents.
"We have been warning for years that we can only build professional reputation on the basis of material status, and currently we are about 9,1 percent below the national average."
For tomorrow, Monday, the independent union of educators of Serbia (NSPRS) announced the protest and called on educators, parents, students and political actors to support them.
"The protest is being organized with the aim of calling on the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Education to make essential, not just cosmetic, changes in order to finally stop the growing violence in society and education," said the statement of this union.
Solving your personal problem, salary and the feeling of disenfranchisement because of it, will be left for another time.
