After a short illness, he died on Friday at the age of 65 Dragan Markovic Palma, President of United Serbia, Member of Parliament and President of the Jagodina City Assembly, was reported by Radio-television of Serbia.
Dragan Marković Palma was born on May 2, 1960 in the village of Končarevo near Jagodina.
Marković was the founder of United Serbia and the first mayor of Jagodina. It became so in 2008, when Jagodina received the status of a city.
He was a private entrepreneur and owner of the company "Palma", which deals with transport and trade. He also owns the "Palma Plus" television, the "Palmini Tigrovi" kick-boxing club, and managed the "Treće Dete" fund.
From 2008, he was a member of the Serbian Parliament, but due to a conflict of interest, he resigned from that position in September 2011.
Even after the 2020 election, he was re-elected as the President of the Jagodina City Assembly.
Marković is also known for his many years of cooperation with the Socialist Party of Serbia and their leader Ivica Dačić, and he got involved in political life in 1993 when he founded the Serbian Unity Party with Željko Ražnatović Arkan and Borislav Pelević.
