Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic, against whom the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (TOK) filed an indictment in the "General Staff" case, stated that he was "sincerely looking forward to the trial" and announced the end of the "organized criminal group around the renegade Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and the prosecutor Mladen Nenadić, who heads it".
"Finally, it will be seen who destroyed the state because this will be the trial of those very people who wanted to change the government without elections and through violence and by orders from the outside. That's why I say that this will mark their end. It will be shown that they are not doing their job," Selaković said in a guest appearance on "Informer" TV.
As he said, he and his defense attorneys have not yet received the indictment.
Selaković thus continued the narrative of a progressive regime determined to collapse the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.
Vučić announces pardons
On December 11, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that in the event that an indictment is filed in connection with the cancellation of the status of a cultural monument for the General Staff complex in Belgrade, he will pardon all those who "allegedly participated in embezzlement."
"I will not give them the opportunity to prosecute those who are not guilty of anything. I am guilty. I am the one who wanted to modernize Serbia. I am the one who wanted to bring a big investor", Vučić said a few days ago in Niš.
Vučić again insulted the prosecutor's office, which is conducting an investigation into abuse of office and falsification of documents, on the basis of which the Government revoked the status of a cultural property of the General Staff complex in the center of Belgrade in May.
Why did TOK file an indictment against Selaković?
Public prosecution for organized crime previously announced on Monday (December 15) that it had filed an indictment against the Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Slavica Jelača, Acting Director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Goran Vasić and Acting Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade Aleksandar Ivanović.
As stated in the announcement, the indictment refers to the suspicion that illegal acts were committed during the process of revoking the status of cultural property of the buildings of the General Staff.
They are charged with execution two crimes - abuse of the official position referred to in the article, as well as falsification of an official document.
The Prosecutor's Office states that the investigation in this case continues, in order to determine whether there are elements of criminal responsibility in the actions of some other persons.
Previously, last week, Selaković first did not appear at the TOK hearing, and then he went to that prosecutor's office, but without a summons and outside their working hours.
He was then served with a new summons for the hearing.
What is Selakovic's role in the General Staff case?
On July 10, 2024, the Minister of Culture, Nikola Selaković, personally asked the Acting Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Ivanović, to submit a document proposing the abolition of the status of cultural property for General Staff in the center of Belgrade. This is what Ivanovic said on September 29, 2025 at the hearing at the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, he announced earlier BIRN.
Ivanovic stated that he refused such a request, that he clearly said that he did not have the authority to send such a proposal for a decision, but also that in the end he gave in under the minister's pressure, and that he did not think that he had committed any criminal act.
Ivanovic specified that Selakovic "asked him four times" to name the document "proposal", and that Slavica Jelača, the secretary in Ministry of Culture, who was also present at the meeting, asked for it two more times.
On the site of the General Staff complex, destroyed during the NATO bombing in 1999, the construction of a luxury complex of the investment company "Affinity Partners" of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, is planned.
The project is opposed by activists and representatives of opposition political parties, as well as part of the professional public.
