In the next school year, elementary and high school students will have four vacations, while students in Vojvodina will have three. The school calendar stipulates that students have autumn, winter, spring and summer holidays, while students in the Province will not have autumn holidays.
By the way, two school calendars apply in Serbia. For schools on the territory of AP Vojvodina, the Provincial Secretariat for Education provides the calendar, while for the rest of Serbia, the calendar is provided by the Ministry of Education.
As reported by Euronews Serbia, the autumn vacation starts on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, and ends on Friday, November 10, 2023. Combined with the weekend, students will have a break of five days. Winter break begins on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and ends on Friday, January 19, 2024. Students return to school on Monday, January 22.
Spring Break begins on Monday, April 29, 2024, and ends on Monday, May 6, 2024. Combined with weekends, students will have a break of 10 days. For students in grades one through seven, summer vacation begins on Monday, June 17, 2024, and ends on Friday, August 30, 2024. For students of the eighth grade, the summer vacation begins after the end of the final exam, and ends on Friday, August 30, 2024.
For students in Vojvodina, the school calendar provides for three holidays. Unlike students in the rest of Serbia, they will not have autumn vacation. For them, the winter break begins on Monday, December 25, 2023, and ends on Friday, January 12, 2024. Spring Break begins on Thursday, March 28, 2024, and ends on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
For students in grades one through seven, summer vacation begins on Monday, June 17, 2024, and ends on Friday, August 30, 2024. For students of the eighth grade, the summer vacation begins after the end of the final exam, and ends on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Who will have more physicality?
More physical education classes await elementary and high school students, initially in 120 classes. In 100 classes in primary schools and 20 classes in secondary schools.
It is about the pilot project "Every child has the right to grow up healthy", which is implemented by three ministries - health, education, sports.
The Ministry of Education will select schools by August 20, and the project will include schools that work in single shifts.
Students in 70 classes up to the fourth grade, 30 classes of the second cycle of basic education and upbringing (from the fifth to the eighth grade), as well as in 20 classes in secondary education and upbringing, will have more physical education classes.
Salary increase
Educators will receive a 5,5 percent salary increase at the beginning of the school year. This means that teachers' September salary will be higher by about 4.100 dinars.
Already for January, government representatives have announced an additional increase of 10 percent, which will increase the salaries of teachers by an additional 7.000 dinars.
