From January to October this year through Niš airport 314.643 passengers passed through, which is 20 percent less compared to these 10 months in 2023. This means that for almost 200.000 people, this figure is far from the half a million passengers that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, spoke about.
In October, there were 31.775 passengers at the Niš airport, which is almost 4000 less compared to the same month last year, and less than September, August, July and June this year.
These numbers are not surprising because there are fewer flights and lines compared to 2023.
At the opening of the new terminal building, Vučić announced subsidies so that "low cost" companies would once again do business in Nis. It was also announced that Air Serbia will introduce a commercial flight from Niš airport. However, there is still no information about which destinations and when it will happen.
Unlike passenger transport, cargo transport is growing.
In the first half of last year, Niš airport was the destination for only three planes that transported 21 tons of goods, and in the first half of this year it was the destination for 17 cargo planes that transported 195 tons of goods, which is an increase of more than nine times.
