There is a lot of pressure. exerts on university professors and deans to end the blockades of faculties, establish semblance of normality and that's how they blow the wind out of the backs of student protests.
With the introduction of online classes, the weight of the state's beating falls only on students - until their protest is suppressed, and then they will move on to the final showdown with rebellious universities and disobedient professors.
With the introduction of online classes, students are faced with a decision: either to apply and betray the spirit of blockades, or to risk not losing, but formally failing the year, and thus the status of a regular student, scholarships or a place in a student dormitory.
As in the case of educators, the government of Aleksandar Vučić wants to crush the protest by hitting the bare existence and wallets of impoverished citizens.
Online classes at two other faculties
Thus, following the decisions of the teaching and scientific councils, the Faculty of Economics, Law, Medicine, Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, Faculty of Science and Technology in Nis switched to online teaching even earlier.
On Monday (May 26), they will be joined by the Faculty of Occupational Safety and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Niš. Since the beginning of the student protests, and on several occasions, they have clearly supported the demands of the students for respect for the law, the rule of law and the social values they stand for, the scientific and teaching council of the faculty announced, as reported by Juzne Vesti.
The faculty will continue to support all legitimate demands and activities of students that do not contradict the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia.
Also, the Faculty will actively work on finding the best solutions that would enable the successful completion of the current academic year, the acquisition of adequate knowledge, safety, the preservation of the status of students and the realization of their rights arising from that status, the announcement reads.
It is expected that the sessions of the teaching-scientific councils of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Philosophy in Niš will be held next week.
Students in the blockade call for a boycott of online classes.
