A spokeswoman of NATO Alison Hart confirmed that the adjustment of the presence and schedule of the peacekeeping mission has begun Kosovo and Metohija, and the reason given was "improvement of the security situation".
In a post on the X social network, Hartova stated that the process depends on the conditions on the ground and that it can be reversed if necessary.
"NATO is working to ensure that our peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, is optimized for current circumstances, keeping in mind the improvement of the security situation," Alison Hart said in a statement.
In the announcement, it was specified that, under the direction of the KFOR commander, Major General Ozkan Ulutaลก, the adjustment of the KFOR presence began, "in close coordination with all relevant authorities and interested parties."
It was stated that these adjustments show tangible progress in supporting a safe environment for all people living in Kosovo and Metohija and freedom of movement, as prescribed by UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
"This process depends on the conditions on the ground and, if the circumstances require it, it can be canceled. NATO remains committed to long-term security in Kosovo and regional stability, for the benefit of all communities," Hartova emphasized in the announcement.
The announcement came after KFOR announced on Monday that it had begun the gradual integration of Kosovo Police officers into the security of the Visoki Deฤani Monastery and a "gradual transition of a permanent presence" at the main bridge over the Ibar River in Kosovska Mitrovica.
