Acting dean Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN) in Belgrade Darko Nadić he stated that the issue of budget seats, which was protested by a group of students on Tuesday, should be regulated by mid-October.
"There are procedures that need to be followed, but in general I don't see any procedural or essential obstacles to that," said Nadić.
The protesting students were told that an increase in the budget places, as has been the case every year so far, as well as an increase in the co-financing places for the table, and that the maximum co-financing should be 90 percent, will be proposed at the Teaching and Research Council.
Very important co-financing places
On Tuesday morning, in front of the FPN, students protested against the decision to abolish 30 percent of budget and two-thirds of co-financed places in all years of study.
Co-financing places are important for students, because few are on the budget, even though they have formal conditions to be on the budget.
It was stated that the 180 best students had the benefit of having their tuition reduced by 10 to 90 percent, and now one third will have the option of having it reduced by 60 percent, while the rest will pay the full amount.
"We don't know if we would call this a blockade." We only supported the students' request to protest and to publicly present their disagreement with the decisions of the Teaching and Research Council. We are ready to be here as long as they want, to propose measures," said Ela Zeković in front of the student organization Demos, N1 reported.
Missing the convocation of students
She also stated that the previous convocation of students failed to regulate this area.
"The co-financing was decided on September 26 at the session, and as far as budget seats are concerned, it is a practice for the student parliament to ask for an additional item on the agenda at the last session every year, in order to secure additional seats." This year it was not done. We had an insight into the items of the agenda that the student representatives of the previous convocation requested at that session. That point was not found in the email that was sent to the professors and the dean. We found out about this information, but we hoped that there would be a solution earlier - we didn't want to make it public so as not to create confusion," she said.
As he says, the organization found out on Monday that it will be handled that way.
"We reacted. The decision we want is: to send a request as student representatives to the Teaching and Research Council, so that it can be decided on it. It is not an obligation for professors to do this, the practice is for student representatives to do it. That is what the previous convocation failed to do," she concluded.
