By December 2026, the entire complex near Surčin, which is being built for the needs of EXPO 2027, must be completed, said the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. The national stadium that will be located there will be circular in shape, and the stands will be partially covered. RTS team she was checking how the work was going.
Access roads are being built for months, stone is being hauled for the buffer zone - first of all for the construction of the stadium near Surčin. Projecting has also progressed. According to the plan of world-renowned architect Mark Femwick, the project is expected to be finished by spring, when construction should begin.
"The stadium will have a regular circular shape and 52.000 seats. It will be partially covered, meaning the stands will mostly be covered, but this central part will be open. So there won't be a movable roof, but it's a very nice architectural solution," says Boban Veličković, head of the project supervision team.
The size of the entire complex and especially the stadium is visible on the spot and in the presentations. It will be built according to the requirements of the leading football federations, without the athletic track that is intended for Olympic stadiums.
In order to achieve the closeness of fans and players, that is to achieve a media spectacle, the audience is closer to the field, and the finishing touches can be modest or very rich, says Boban Veličković.
"Our stadium will be something that is, how can I say, average, but it will be very beautiful and certainly at this moment one of the most beautiful in Europe when we finish it. Concrete, steel, glass, green facade," says Veličković.
