KFOR has confirmed that 2023 additional soldiers have been deployed in Kosovo since May 1000, which represents the largest reinforcement of this mission in the last ten years, reports RTS.
In addition, KFOR tripled the number of patrols, including those along the administrative line. However, Serbs in Kosovo normally do not notice the presence of KFOR, because they are not in the settlements, so this reinforcement went unnoticed.
KFOR's announcement that forces have been reinforced in the North of Kosovo and Metohija followed the Pristina media's question about Interior Minister Djeljalj Svečlja's statement that there are around 400 "Serbian extremists" training near Kosovo.
"The KFOR commander remains in close contact with all his major colleagues, including representatives of security organizations in Kosovo, the Chief of Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, EULEX, the UN, the OSCE and the diplomatic corps," the statement said.
The statement also states that NATO continues to encourage Belgrade and Pristina to engage in dialogue with the mediation of the EU, as the only way to resolve open issues and achieve solutions that respect the rights of all communities.
"This is the key to sustainable security in Kosovo and stability in the region," KFOR said in its response.
