First, a heart was drawn over the image of Hague convict Ratko Mladić on a mural in Njegoševa Street in Belgrade. After a few days, the whole thing was repainted. That was done by Đorđe Miketić, deputy of Zajedno Moramo.
After him, Partizan fans also left their message "Turn on your brain, turn off Pink" in the same place. They pointed out the same slogan last Thursday in the "Arena", at the match between Partizan and Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Euroleague.
Civic activist Aida Ćorović, who along with Jelena Jaćimović, was detained after throwing eggs at the mural of the Hague convict, believes that it is not enough to deface the mural, but it should be physically removed, and she wants to believe that there is a good intention behind the fan's message.
There are no hooligans to defend him
Several attempts were made to repaint this mural, but every time that happened, a group of admirers of the mural and Mladić, usually disguised with hoods and masks, would quickly gather to clean it up quickly. At one time, they even organized the guarding of the mural in shifts.
Now that is missing, and Aida Ćorović states why.
"Because the mural is no longer a topic, it did its job two years ago, when it was necessary to further strengthen the nationalist and war-mongering matrix that this government pushed to the fore at that time. The effect, unfortunately, has been achieved, a large number of young people have been completely contaminated by that false heroic story, and the government has raised the scale of its pro-fascist values," he says to N1 Corovic
Photo: FoNet/Darko PopovićMurals dedicated to the former commander of the Republika Srpska Army and convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić can be found on the facades of buildings throughout Belgrade. Some are standing untouched, some have had paint thrown on them and are still standing like that.
And Aida Ćorovć says that this shameful mural is not the only one in Belgrade and that it will take us years to cross them all.
Just around the corner, right next to the painted over mural of Ratko Mladić, the figure of Dragoljub Mihailović stands undamaged.
