Miroslav Aleksić, one of the leading people of the "I choose the fight" coalition, talks to "Vreme" about the "matchmaking of the regime", the overthrown and then returned lists and why he still thinks there are chances of victory.
Local elections are approaching with a long pregame and a short campaign. It marked the last days alternately overthrowing and returning opposition electoral lists primarily in Belgrade.
"The representatives of the regime of Aleksandar Vučić are matchmaking masters, they constantly have some tricks to manipulate the citizens of Serbia and to make it difficult for the opposition", says Miroslav Aleksić, the first man of the National Movement of Serbia and one of the leaders of the "I choose the fight" coalition, in an interview for "Vreme".
As he says, the aim of the vicissitudes surrounding the bi o newspaper is to "bring the subject of boycott back to the table" and to attack the opposition once again.
"There are two biggest problems because of which we cannot say that there are fair and honest elections in Serbia - pressure on voters and abuse of the media. Those two key problems would not be solved even by September. This is about the fact that we have to take one thing at a time from the dictator under pressure, there is no other way to fight," says Aleksić.
"Let's show some backbone"
The interlocutor of "Vremen" is still optimistic before the vote on June 2. He tells the voters "that the power is in their hands and ours and that now is the moment to resist; to show backbone; that Serbia is the country of all of us and that it does not belong to a group of people who behave as if they inherited it; let's not be silent and stand up."
When asked if he expects his colleagues from the opposition, who decided to boycott the elections in Belgrade and a number of other local governments, to invite voters to vote for the opposition on June 2nd, Aleksić says:
"I think that would be very correct and responsible." It would be a great gesture. Because, whatever happens on June 2, we must together continue the fight against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić, for the normalization of political life, for the improvement of electoral conditions and future parliamentary elections. That's what awaits us, we have the same goal."
