Extraordinary local elections will soon be held in the north of Kosovo, announced the Minister of Local Self-Government Administration in the Government of Kosovo, Eljbert Krasnići. He stated that the Central Election Commission will come out with a report on the verification of the signatures of the citizens who petitioned to replace the current mayors in the north of Kosovo, after which a referendum should be held, reports Voice of America (VOA).
"Now I expect that the Central Election Commission will finish its part of the work and that we will soon have a vote in four municipalities in the north of the country where citizens will vote freely, without any influence, whether they are in favor of removing the mayor from their offices and replacing them, or what their wish is." ", Krasnići said.
Biševac: The mayors themselves should resign
Krasnići stated that everyone is aware that the current mayors in the north of Kosovo do not have full legitimacy due to the small number of citizens who participated in the elections, but that the last word on their replacement will be given by the citizens in the referendum.
On the other hand, the president of the Serbian People's Movement, Milija Biševac, believes that the referendum process should not be entered into at all, but that the mayors themselves should resign, because, according to him, there are numerous problems related to the organization of a fair and democratic referendum.
"First of all, we need to look at the fact that a large number of people have left Kosovo in the meantime, voter lists have not been updated, a large number of people who have died in the meantime have not been deleted from those lists." I think the numbers on the electoral rolls are absolutely unrealistic. Also, no one mentions that, which is that the majority of young people have serious problems in obtaining the citizenship of Kosovo so that they can be registered on the voter list tomorrow. I think we are entering into a process that will only prolong the situation and produce a new crisis", said Biševac.
The decision to return the land to the Visoki Dečani monastery
At the debate in the Čaglavica Media Center on the topic "Efficiency and impact of citizens' petitions as a tool for realizing rights and changes in society" other current issues in Kosovo were also discussed.
Journalists were interested in whether it is true that the Government of Kosovo, due to its membership in the Council of Europe, expects the municipality of Dečani to register the property of the Visoki Dečani monastery.
"I don't have an answer to this question, you can ask the government and I'm sure you will get an answer." What I want to say is that there is no room in Kosovo for decisions that have their origins in the Milošević period in Kosovo. Every decision of the Republic of Kosovo should have an end to that time period, because that period did not represent the interests of the citizens who lived in this country," said Minister Eljber Krasnići.
The leader of the Serbian Democracy, Aleksandar Arsenijević, reminded Minister Eljbert Krasnići that the Constitutional Court of Kosovo made a decision obliging the municipality of Dečani to register the property of the Visoki Dečani monastery.
"I will remind you that the decision to return the land to the Visoki Dečani monastery was not made by Slobodan Milošević, that decision was made by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo. Such statements can also be filed against the overthrow of the constitutional order of Kosovo, so I am asking you, as well as the other leaders of the Government, not to use such terms when such sensitive issues are involved," said Arsenijević.
