Ministry of Interior has announced that it expresses concern about decisions of the Basic Court in Užice which terminated the detention of suspects for "attacking officials during an unannounced public gathering on July 6 in Užice".
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that by abolishing detention, "a message is sent to the public that an attack on police officers, who protect the safety of citizens and take care of public order and peace, is permissible and unpunished."
"We consider it inappropriate that the judiciary, as an independent branch of government, by making decisions to the detriment of police officers, who perform their duties professionally and legally, is subject to pressure from members of the public and, by letting the suspects defend themselves from freedom, diminishes the gravity of the committed crime. Especially if it is taken into account that some people spent several months in custody for minor crimes," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
The Ministry of Interior notes that the security of the country and all its citizens is a priority and they stress that they stand for the absolute protection of their members who, as it is emphasized, risk their lives every day protecting the constitutional order and the law.
"With such a decision, the question arises as to what kind of message the court, whose task is to protect the legal order, is sending to police officers, if attacks on them are treated in this way, bearing in mind that police officers are on official duty every day to protect public order and peace and the safety of citizens, including the safety of judges and prosecutors," the MUP statement concluded.
Scandalizing on Pink
On TV Pink, the names of the judges of the Judicial Council in Užice were read who acquitted the "thugs blocking the road" who "beat the policemen" and blocked the main road.
Pink's interlocutors, Informer owner Dragan J. Vučićević and SNS official and lawyer Vladimir Đukanović, assessed it as a "shame for the Serbian judiciary".
The president of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, was also scandalized because of "selective justice" and "pressure on the judiciary".
Vučićević called on the "state" to react "most energetically" to the verdict of the Basic Court in Užice, and stand in the way of "the minority that threatens and fights can do everything with impunity".
