Professor Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, Vesna Bjegović Mikanović said on Friday (April 25) that the institution should join the strike from May 5th.
"We are going on strike from May 5. Today we are sending our administration, the dean of our faculty, and the Ministry of Health a notice containing that decision," said Bjegović Mikanović, as reported by FoNet.
The legal deadline of 10 days to go on strike starts on Friday.
During the strike, he says, there will be no lectures and exercises, but consultative classes will be held if necessary.
"The exams will be able to be taken by those who, for example, are seniors, so they have finished their classes and have some backlogged exams or have transferred exams from previous years, and that is a relatively small number of students," explained Bjegović Mikanović.
She added that health services, scientific and research activities, as well as specializations, will be provided.
Invitation to the Prime Minister to respond to the meeting with the rector and deans
Bjegović Mikanović invited the prime minister and a faculty colleague at the same time Djura Macuta to respond to the invitation they sent to him rector and deans of the University of Belgrade and comes to "his house".
After the cancellation of the second meeting with Prime Minister Macuta, the rector of the University of Belgrade Vladan Djokic, sent an invitation to the prime minister for a new meeting on April 28 or 29.
Professor Bjegović Mikanović says that she doubts that he will respond to that invitation.
"I would invite him to come and talk to his colleagues and represent the interests of the academic environment, because that is certainly his future. One day, when his position as prime minister is over, he will return to the academic environment and continue his work, which is completely collapsed at the moment," said the professor.
At the conversation with the Prime Minister, if it happens, the demand for the cancellation of the harmful Regulation that drastically reduced the number of hours for scientific research activities at the faculties should be highlighted.
"Without scientific and research work, faculties and universities lose their function", believes Bjegović Mikanović, "they are reduced to high school or primary school".
