Prime Minister of Serbia Đuro Macut he strongly condemned the insults and slander against Mihail Vučević, the son of the president of the Serbian Progressive Party Miloš Vucevic, calling them "an attack on the foundations of human dignity". But while defending the former prime minister's son, Macut does not mention a series of offensive statements and hate speech from the ranks of the government — from Vučić calling the opposition "traitors" to Brnabićka's accusations that opponents "pump hate." Examples of this are very common, but it seems that in the Prime Minister's version of political culture, they do not deserve condemnation.
Naine, Macut stated in a written statement that the attack on Mihailo Vučević was not only a personal attack, but also an attack on the former prime minister and current advisor to the President of the Republic, Miloš Vučević.
"There is nothing worse in a society than attacking one's children with a political connotation - it is an act that transcends political differences and strikes at the very foundations of human dignity," said the Prime Minister.
He added that there is no place in a democratic society for manipulations based on unverified information and untruths, because such practice "collapses the trust of citizens, polarizes society and causes irreparable damage to public discourse."
The Prime Minister called on the media, citizens and political actors to refrain from baseless accusations and hate speech and to contribute to building a political culture based on facts and mutual respect.
"Liars", "traitors" and "enemies of the state"
However, Macut did not refer to the series of examples of hate speech and offensive rhetoric used by high-ranking government officials in recent years, including President Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Assembly Miloš Vučević and former Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.
Let's recall that Vučić repeatedly called Marinika Tepić a "liar", "traitor" and "enemy of the state", while formally condemning national insults. There is also Ana Brnabić, who accused the opposition of "pumping lies and hatred" and of showing "violence that exceeds all limits of decency" in the parliament. Also, Brnabić claimed that "the tycoon media is running a hate campaign against Vučić".
The approach of Prime Minister Matsuto therefore confirms the rule that the highest state officials from the ranks of the SNS constantly react harshly to attacks directed at the top of the government, but therefore, as a rule, omit criticism of their members and leadership, when they do the same.
By the way, the reaction of Prime Minister Đur Macut followed the announcement of the City Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party in Novi Sad, in which city councilor Miša Bačulov was accused of "heinously and wantonly" attacking the family of SNS President Miloš Vučević, claiming that his son organized the throwing of paint on a neighbor's house.
In a post on Instagram, Bachulov accused SNS supporters of throwing paint at his neighbor's house, led by Vučević's son, stating that he was actually the target.
