Today, October 19, the Government of Slovenia will decide on the introduction of controls at the borders with Croatia and Hungary, it was confirmed to the STA agency from the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ljubljana, about which the relevant minister has already informed Croatian and Hungarian colleagues, Agnesija Hina reported.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a notification about this for the European Commission, in accordance with the rules of Schengen, reports the Zagreb agency.
"This is a proposal for a temporary measure due to the increased level of terrorist threat assessment in EU countries," Boštjan Poklukar told N1.
Due to migratory pressure, but also due to the situation in the Middle East, several countries have introduced or decided to extend controls at internal Schengen borders.
Italy previously informed Slovenia that due to the changed situation in Europe and the Middle East, it is introducing border controls. According to unofficial information, the controls should be introduced on Saturday, initially for 10 days, with the possibility of being extended.
Austria, which introduced controls on the border with Slovenia and Hungary in 2015 at the height of the refugee crisis, on Monday reported to the European Commission about the new extension of that control, from November 12 this year to May 11 next year.
Re-temporary controls at the internal borders of the Schengen area can be introduced by countries only in the case of a serious threat to public order or internal security, of which they must inform Brussels, according to the Hina agency.
Security measures in BiH raised to a higher level
Security measures in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have been raised to a higher level due to fears of a possible spillover of the crisis from the Middle East. This was stated by the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Nešić, for the SRNA news agency.
He said that the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently good.
"We follow events, both in the region and in the world, and we expect that no event will surprise us," Nešić said, reports SRNA.
